and published on 22 October 1843: ‘For gallantry in escaping from prison at Burgos in 1812 and during the enemy sortie from Bayonne on 14 April 1814

The black pebbled leather washer at the crossguard junction is in intact and remains supple in texture

but are otherwise in good condition

Ruttimann, C. 1935 Auction This is a dark blueConstructed of multi piece pressed black leather, consisting of a backer rolled into a belt loop and secured in place with heavy hand stitching, the front bearing a separate channel of identical construction for the insertion of a bayonet scabbard, the reverse bearing an embossed makers mark of AU DPART A. RUTTIMANN, LAUSANNE, measuring 80 mm (w) x 195 mm (h), with age appropriate material fatigue evident to the leather, in overall very fine condition.
